In Waukesha, an official Tree City USA, the change of colors in our neighborhood is a beautiful sight. With the change in colors comes the inevitable falling of the leaves. The Department of Public Works will be providing three leaf pick-up opportunities this Fall for our neighborhood: Oct. 28, Nov. 12, and Dec. 9.
Please have loose leaves raked out to the terrace area (the area between the sidewalk and the street) in front of your home by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled day of pick-up. Leaves in the street can cause major damage when washed into storm sewers. Do not put leaves in bags. Crews may arrive early to some streets if they get ahead of schedule, but will re-turn again on the scheduled day. If it snows, crews may be diverted to plowing, but leaves will still be picked up as long as the snow doesn’t bury them and freeze. In that event, crews will plan to revisit and pick up leaves in the spring as necessary.
If needed, the Recycle Center (located at 750 Sentry Drive) will accept leaves at no charge from October 22 through December 13. The hours for the Recycle Center are:
- Monday 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. October 27 through November 24, leaves dropped off ONLY, no other items accepted.
- Wednesday 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. through December 10, leaves and other items accepted.
- Saturday 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. year round, leaves and other items accepted.
Please be mindful of your neighbors. Raking of leaves into the gutter is prohibited by the City Ordinance 6.05 (5), as well, burning of leaves or other debris is also prohibited by the City Ordinance 21.04 (3) (d).
